LOCAL CREDIT UNIONS TO COMBINE OPERATIONS

LIMA, OH— First Choice Credit Union of Coldwater, Ohio and Superior Credit Union of Lima, Ohio, have announced plans to combine their operations.  Under the arrangement, First Choice Credit Union will integrate its $16 million in assets and 2,000 members with Superior, which has $630 million in assets and 63,500 members.  The combined organization will operate as Superior Credit Union.

What Members of Each Credit Union Will Get

The deal will provide members of First Choice Credit Union access to Superior’s 14 area branch locations and its wider array of financial products and services.  Meanwhile, Superior members will gain full service access to First Choice’s branch location in Coldwater, with a new branch facility to be built in the near future.

“There are a lot of new products, services, and technologies that Superior already has in place that will benefit our members,” said Kerri Lauber, Office Manager of First Choice.  “Meanwhile, our members will gain the immediate advantage of an expanded ATM network and convenient branch locations.”

“We realized that if we conjoined operations, our members could benefit greatly from the programs that Superior has in place right now.  This is definitely the right move for our membership,” said Lauber.

Once the deal is completed, members of First Choice will have access to those additional products and services at Superior, such as full-service mortgage products, financial investment services, real estate services, insurance services, and small business services.

Phil Buell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Superior, believes the arrangement will benefit the members of both institutions.

“In credit unions, consolidation is done for the sole purpose of benefiting members.  This is a decision to combine assets and provide additional services to the membership.  For Superior members, they will now have access to First Choice’s full-service branch location.  We see this as a tremendous benefit to our Mercer and Auglaize County members.”

Before members vote on the tentative merger, the Boards of both credit unions had to approve the proposal.  Approval from state and federal regulators is needed as well.

SUPERIOR ACQUIRES YOCUM REALTY

LIMA, OH— Superior Credit Union, Inc., announced today that its subsidiary, Superior Financial Solutions, LLC, has acquired Yocum Realty, a real estate brokerage firm in Lima, Ohio. The acquisition adds to Superior’s current home and business-related offerings of mortgage origination, title services, and property and casualty insurance.

"Yocum Realty has a strong presence and great reputation in West Central Ohio," stated Phil Buell, President and CEO of Superior Credit Union. "We believe this will be a true benefit to our current and new members as we provide them convenient access to real estate brokerage services. As West Central Ohio’s mortgage leader, offering our members brokerage services will further enhance the buying and selling experience. We are excited to have Tim Stanford and his team join Superior.”

Yocum Realty was founded in 1961 by R.L. Yocum. Tim Stanford has owned the firm since 2002, when he purchased it from his father-in-law, Gene Nameche. SUPERIOR TO HOLD RIBBON-CUTTING FOR NEW ST. RITA’S BRANCH LOCATION

LIMA, OH— Superior Credit Union will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 19th at 9:30 a.m. at its newest branch office located within St. Rita’s Medical Center, 730 W. Market
St., Lima.

The branch is located inside the main hospital entrance directly to the left of the information desk. Business hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. A Financial Services Officer is on
site during those hours to assist with loans and account questions. Cash transactions, including deposits, are available via Interactive Teller Machine (ITM).

The ITM, essentially a self-serve teller station, can accept cash or check deposits as well as provide cash withdrawals. A live teller will be available via video conference during Superior’s call center
hours, currently 8-6 Monday-Friday and 9-12 on Saturday.

The branch is open to Superior members and the general public.

Superior CU and St Rita’s share a rich history. In the early 1980’s, St. Rita’s considered starting their own credit union to serve employees. Instead, they partnered with Superior to offer cooperative financial services.

“St. Rita’s is our area’s largest employer and we have a solid 35-year relationship serving their employees.” said Phil Buell, CEO. “The convenience of a location on the St Rita’s Medical Center
Campus provides an added benefit to the employees and our members visiting the medical campus.”

Buell expects SRMC medical providers, who often work extended days, to especially benefit from this new location. “Sometimes, just getting to the credit union to deposit a check or sign your loan
documents is out of the question. Now, SRMC employees will have this convenient branch right at their workplace,” he added.

“We have an incredibly giving and committed team at St. Rita’s, so anytime we can help make their lives a little bit easier—we want to do that,” says Bob Baxter, President and CEO of St. Rita’s Health
Partners. “Offering a full-service banking facility is one small convenience that we hope will support a healthier work/life balance.”

SUPERIOR CU NAMED 7TH BEST-PERFORMING CREDIT UNION IN U.S.

LIMA, OH— S&P Global Market Intelligence, formerly S&P Capital IQ and SNL Financial, recently released its ranking of 2015’s 50 best-performing credit unions. Superior Credit Union, based in Lima, Ohio, was named the 7th Best-Performing Credit Union in the U.S.

Superior was the only Ohio credit union to be named to the Top 50 list. The credit union is ranked in impressive company, as only one other credit union in the top ten had assets of less than $2 billion. Up from $572 million at year end, Superior’s current asset size is $590 million.

S&P Global Market Intelligence ranked the nation's credit unions using five core financial performance metrics: member growth, net charge offs as a percentage of average loans, efficiency ratio, asset quality, and market growth.

“Superior is proud to be recognized as one of the safest and best performing credit unions in the country,” said Phil Buell, CEO. “To be recognized nationally, is a testament to our volunteers, employees, and members, who collaboratively provide our community with consumer-friendly financial solutions.”

This is Superior’s first appearance on the list, as it only recently became eligible for inclusion due to asset size. To be eligible for the ranking, a credit union had to report more than $500 million in total assets and a net worth ratio of at least 7.0% as of Dec. 31, 2015. Based on these criteria, 488 U.S. credit unions qualified for the ranking. Superior’s net worth ratio, a measure of safety and soundness, is 14.71% which is twice the regulatory requirements.

SUPERIOR FCU PARTNERS WITH WESTERN BUCKEYE LEAGUE

WBL logoLIMA, OH— Superior Credit Union and the Western Buckeye League athletic conference have officially signed a marketing agreement making Superior the Official Financial Institution of the WBL. While common in college and professional sports, this deal is believed to be the first of its kind in Ohio high school athletics.

Under the agreement, Superior will provide the league and each member school with sponsorship and marketing considerations. Beginning this fall, fans will be able to listen to the all new “WBL Game of the Week” every week during football and basketball season on 93.9 KISS-FM, presented by Superior. Superior will also sponsor one WBL conference tournament each year. Finally, the WBL All Sports Trophy will officially be named the Superior Credit Union Commissioner’s Trophy.

As part of the deal, Superior will also underwrite the Western Buckeye League Sportsmanship Committee. This committee is composed of a minimum of 4 students from each of the WBL member schools as appointed by the athletic director and high school principal of each member school. The committee was created to promote sportsmanship and leadership among the league’s student-athletes.

In return, Superior will receive promotional consideration from the league and its member schools, including on the League’s website, wblsports.com, and the WBL Sports mobile app.

“Superior has always been supportive of our local schools. In pursing this partnership, we sought to package our support into a single agreement that would benefit both organizations,“ said Kurt Neeper, Vice President of Superior Credit Union.

“Superior’s office locations align almost perfectly with the WBL member schools. And like the Western Buckeye League, we have a long tradition of excellence in enriching the communities we serve,” said Neeper. “So when looking for a marketing partner, it only made sense to start with the WBL.”

“The athletic directors and member schools are in agreement that this is a good partnership for all involved,” said Robert Askins, WBL Commissioner. “This is a relatively new type of agreement for us, and knowing that this partnership will reflect on all member schools, we wanted to make sure that we were working with a quality organization. We found that in Superior.”
